Sometimes when you see a image it suggests a whole world. This was the effect when I saw this picture. It pulls you in by its horns, then like a Rorschach test suggests all sorts of context: it’s like an artefact from an ancient civilisation or a magical fantasy world where wizards reside. But it does not lose itself in realism or fantasy. It is at the same time a very clearly geometric digital image, constructed by mirroring and rotating and extracting shapes. The result is a powerful symbol that hints at epic stories in a world to be discovered.

“It is rare in an art teacher’s career to come across a student who epitomizes an artist. There are students who are talented in art, those who have good ideas, even those who have some brilliant work. But seldom is there someone who is an artist - Marqui is one of those people. In the way that he dresses, talks, thinks and creates - he IS an artist. I have witnessed him complete an entire piece of art in one class period. He has the concept in his mind, and if we’re lucky he will translate what he sees onto paper, in a photograph, or in a digital medium so that we can view it too. I’m honored to have been his teacher and be a small part in his realization of the artist that he is.”
